There were finally some apparent signs that Di Fuyi’s condition was improving. Nevertheless, Gu Xijiu saw him swallowing the pills yet still behaving as if nothing had happened. She was actually tempted to do the same.

She took a pill and popped it into her mouth. She needed some water to help her swallow the pill, but as she searched for it, a man called out. “Oh, no! There are so many Bloody Bats again! They have returned!”

Gu Xijiu was surprised. In fact, she choked on the pill! Unable to breathe, she started coughing violently. The pill was not a small one, so she could not cough it out so easily. Soon, her face was red.

Di Fuyi quickly gave her a tap on the black, followed by a tight squeeze from the back. Finally, she spat the pill out, and it went through the curtains. Gu Xijiu could finally catch her breath, and she kept away the bottle of pills in her storage bag again. It was a waste to let the pill fly out the window, so she wanted to try and get it back. However, what she saw next completely stunned her.

There were thousands of Bloody Bats surrounding them in the air. They were initially drawn to the carriage, but they changed their course all of a sudden and plunged downward as if going after something important. Gu Xijiu was dizzy just watching them fly together.

What was going on? Gu Xijiu threw the guardians a look and saw their equally perplexed faces. “The bats were coming after us just now.”

Guardian Hua heaved a long sigh of relief. “Anyway, I am glad that they are not going to attack us anymore.”

Guardian Jin agreed, “I thought the same. If they were really coming at us, we would not be able to stand a chance. Do you know what they are doing? It seems as though they are killing themselves!” The Bloody Bats were fighting frantically against one another all of a sudden. They were not even bothered by the carriages anymore.

Gu Xijiu was confused by the strange encounter. She stood there watching the bats for a while but could not figure out what they were doing. She somehow thought that it must have something to do with the pill that slipped out of her mouth.

She turned her head around and turned to Di Fuyi for an answer. He was standing right next to her, with his arms around her waist. He was looking in the same direction, as if deep in thought.

“What do you think the Bloody Bats are doing?” Gu Xijiu finally asked. When he was around, she would always count on him for an answer.

Di Fuyi did not say anything. Instead, he pulled her into the carriage and carefully instructed her, “Xijiu, these Purple Cloud Mushroom pills should not be exposed anymore. The bats are actually drawn to the pills. We have wrongly faulted Yun Yanli for the earlier encounter with the bats.”

Gu Xijiu had the same doubt but was not entirely sure. “How can you be sure?”

Di Fuyi explained, “I have seen everything with my eyes. They were plunging towards the pill. One of the bats seized the chance and swallowed the pill first, but was not able to handle the overwhelming effect. The first bat exploded, shattering its flesh into tiny bits. Meanwhile, the rest of the bats were frantically going after its meat, which sparked the fight.”

Gu Xijiu was speechless. She never knew that the pills would actually attract the Bloody Bats. Perhaps, the pills were as precious as the meat of the Tang Priest to them.

Gu Xijiu and Di Fuyi were engaged in a discussion when Guardian Jin suddenly asked, “What is the matter, Governor Yun?”

Apparently, Yun Yanli was onboard the carriage. As expected, Yun Yanli spoke nonchalantly, “I have a few questions for your master.”

He raised the curtains and entered the carriage.

“Xijiu, were you studying something? How did you manage to attract the huge mass of Bloody Bats? It is not a good sign. Take it out and let me have a look.”
