Chapter 451 - I Like You Not Because Of Your Looks
After the shower, Xia Ning breathed a little. It was a bit humid in the bathroom. Her clothes were still in the washing machine. She could use the chance to get some air on the balcony.
She had noticed that every bedroom had a balcony outside. She opened the door of the guest room. Without turning on the lights, she walked to the balcony.
It was almost October and it was getting cold. Maybe because she was anxious, even with only a nightdress on her, she did not feel cold. Her hand fell on the railing. She gazed into the endless darkness far away from her and thought back on what happened today.
After she got to Qiao Yu’s home, what she had seen was very different from what she had imagined. Before, she thought that in an upper-class family like the Qiao family, there must be a lot of rules. But here, she only saw peace. His mother was way gentler and nicer than she thought. A person born into this kind of family should be like Qiao Yu, intelligent, introverted, but with some distance.
She knew she should not have come to see Enoch, but she knew too well about that helplessness and disappointment without parents by the side. Back then, Dad left. Mum was the only one taking care of her. She never said anything about missing Dad, but did she really not?
Impossible! She did not say anything just because she did not want Mum to be sad.
Later, Mum passed away too and she was the only one left. That feeling of missing them overwhelmed her and it was so painful that her heart felt like it was spasming. She could remember that emptiness and despair till this day.
She was taught that being rational and calm was the most important. Under any circumstances, she was valued the most for it as well – she was more rational and crueler than anyone else. But recently, this wall seemed to have started to crack. It was not a good sign.
Behind her, there were some steps approaching. Xia Ning returned to herself and turned around to the person approaching.
Qiao Yu was walking towards her with two glasses of wine.
“Do you want some?” Qiao Yu walked closer and passed the glass to her.
Xia Ning threw a look at Qiao Yu and said calmly, “You’ve already taken them here. I have no reason to refuse.” As she spoke, she took a glass.
Seeing Xia Ning’s bare shoulder, Qiao Yu put the glass on the balcony and took off his jacket, ready to give it to her. But he was interrupted by some laughter.
“Is this a new trick to get girls?” Xia Ning swirled the wine and looked at him with a vague smile.
Qiao Yu looked back at Xia Ning. “Do you hope it is or not?”
Xia Ning raised her eyebrows. “I don’t feel cold.” But just as she finished that, the tall shadow covered her and his jacket was already on her. She looked up at the man in front of her with a frown.
“Even if you don’t feel cold, you should wear it. It’s getting cold lately.” Qiao Yu stepped back and stared at Xia Ning. Because of the dark night, the expression on his face could not be seen clearly.
Xia Ning darted a look at the jacket on her and said with a careless smile, “Thanks!” It was a thing that any gentleman abroad would do, so she did not refuse.
Qiao Yu took the glass and turned around to look into the distance. “I’ve only done it for you,” he said.
Xia Ning’s hand on the glass stopped suddenly. The red liquid hit the wall of the glass and poured down rapidly. Eventually, it went still. She looked at Qiao Yu’s side profile. Only for her?
Wasn’t he, President Qiao, very busy? Doesn’t he not care about little things like this? Why did he even explain?
She started to understand his persistence, just like hers for him back then. Because he could not get it, he did not want to give up. It was obsession.
The wind was mild with a little coldness. Qiao Yu held up the glass and took a sip. He turned around at Xia Ning. “At dinner tonight, Enoch said I liked you because you look pretty. That’s not true.”
